Pretty much the last three months were just about removing the undercoating. The good news is that the undercoating preserved the underside of the car. There is virtually no rust! The bad news is getting the undercoating off is going to be lots of work, and not very much fun work at that.

After trying many different things to get the undercoating off, such as heat and various chemicals I finally found a process that worked.

Step 1 was to use a torch and a plastic spatula to heat up and scrape off as much as I could.

Step 2 involve spraying lacquer thinner on the undercoating, covering it with plastic wrapped for a few minutes, then using paper towels to wipe it off, and repeat, and repeat.

Step 3 was to go back over with a towel and clean out in the crevices and residue.

After much work this is the result. I was going to try to save the original finish, however, it has nicks and stains so I decided to leave it but sand it smooth and repaint.

Here is a picture of the front, on the driver side of the transmission tunnel.

Finally, the rear quarter looking back to where the gas tank sits.

I'm about 98% finished, they're just a few areas left which I'll get back to when he gets a little warmer.
